Blog Review: https://trishadoeseverythingbutstudy2.wordpress.com/2020/12/18/my-july-reviews-p...

This was a complete trainwreck for me......not in the way the word is usually used.....but in the I know what's going to happen......mostly because I knew how it was going to end because for some godforsaken reason I decided that I should read this before The Tower Of Dawn.....since it seemed there was a lot more in this that I had not known......Now, though I am glad I did read this eventually...it makes a lot of things make a lot more sense......I still wish I hadn't read this since it was just devastating to keep seeing it happen again in real time because most of it I already knew from the first five books I had already read. Now, I'll stop procrastinating and read The Tower Of Dawn, even though I'm a bit skeptical of the perspectives in it. ( )

So my first Sarah J. Maas book. I’m not unimpressed. I like her writing style and I liked all the side characters but I don’t like Celaena. I have a lot of problems with her. While she does have good morals, she lets them get in the way of being a good assassin. Reading this book, she wasn’t very kickass, she was very, very soft. Also, throughout the novelas, her only accomplishments that she ever listed were the ones she did in the book: freeing slaves and etc. I really don’t see the cold-blooded season. And I don’t think that she is a progressive character either, because the only thing that separates her from many male stereotypes is the fact that she likes cosmetics. People can be beautiful without makeup and wanting to be pretty shouldn’t be the only girlish quality of a progressive character. A progressive character should celebrat what is good about being a woman, not just be able to hit people.

Okay so for a bit more good: I found this book interesting throughout and I liked how they all made one story. Maybe I should have read Throne of Glass first. ( )

This novella was good, just not as good as I was expecting after reading Throne of Glass. Honestly, if I hadn’t read TOG first, I probably wouldn’t have finished this because I wouldn’t have any attachment to the characters or any curiosity for what happens to them. I am glad I read this, though, so that I could know more about Sam and his relationship with Celaena. ( )

Many people ask if they should listen to The Assassin's Blade before Throne of Glass and I have and will always say yes, yes you should for sure. My opinion is you will lose information if you do not. I loved this book, as all the others in this series. Author has an amazing mind. Narrator is amazing and I choose books if she is Narrator, she is that good. ( )

"I am what I am, and I don’t particularly care what you think of me.”

Wowowow. This book tore my heart apart. I really didn't expect to love this as much as I did and now I'm so excited to delve into The Throne of Glass world even more.

”My name is Celaena Sardothien,” she whispered, “and I will not be afraid.” ( )
