This novella was good, just not as good as I was expecting after reading Throne of Glass. Honestly, if I hadn’t read TOG first, I probably wouldn’t have finished this because I wouldn’t have any attachment to the characters or any curiosity for what happens to them. I am glad I read this, though, so that I could know more about Sam and his relationship with Celaena. ( )

Many people ask if they should listen to The Assassin's Blade before Throne of Glass and I have and will always say yes, yes you should for sure. My opinion is you will lose information if you do not. I loved this book, as all the others in this series. Author has an amazing mind. Narrator is amazing and I choose books if she is Narrator, she is that good. ( )

"I am what I am, and I don’t particularly care what you think of me.”

Wowowow. This book tore my heart apart. I really didn't expect to love this as much as I did and now I'm so excited to delve into The Throne of Glass world even more.

”My name is Celaena Sardothien,” she whispered, “and I will not be afraid.” ( )

These novellas are building up Celaena Sardothien's story, and each novella builds the story so we can understand how and why she was arrested and maybe who is involved with her arrest. There are a lot of characters that I really liked in those stories, and I hope to see them again in the next books. The whole book The Assassin's Blade gets from me 4.3 stars; I will go to each of the five stories and tell how many stars each story got.
1. The Assassin and the Pirate Lord: It was my least liked story and got 3.5 stars. It is the first novella of The Throne of Glass series, where we found out that Celaena and Sam's relationship wasn't the best or as we know from the first book of the series. In this novella, we can see that even though Celaena is an assassin, she has a good heart and feels something for the weak; she is humanitarian to the slaves she has to bring to Arrobyn. It is a good starting story, but to tell the truth, I don't know if the first chapter of Throne of Glass were the first chapter of this novella, I would have continued with the series. (I am happy that I started with Throne of Glass.)
2. The Assassin and the Healer 5 stars. It is a story that has two strong female characters; you can see the yin and yang on those two characters. Each one has a good part and a bad part and those parts build your character and personality. From this novella, you learn the importance of education and stand for yourself and the weak, especially in the time of need, without asking nothing back. Do something good, so your soul will feel better, and you will become stronger.
3. The Assassin and the Desert another 5-star story for me. This story shows how well Sarah J Maas knows to build her world and her characters. Celaena doesn't have friends, but the ones that become her friends are important to her. I would love to see Ansel and Ilias again in the other books of the series. While reading this story, I felt I was in the desert with Celaena and the silent assassins. I enjoyed the silent assassin master because even though he wasn't talking, he could pass the message to Celaena.
4. The Assassin and the Underground a 4-star story for me. In the beginning, I thought it would be a novella about Celaena and people from the underground, but it was a different story. The person who betrayed Celaena; the story shows how money and power are important in this world. Celaena, only at the end of the story, understands that she is the pawn and doesn't have all the exact information. This story is Arrobyn's revenge for Celaena's acts in the first novella, The Assassin and the Pirate Lord. I loved how the story developed. It was action-packed; this story was full of fantastic descriptions. I can understand why Arrobyn misinformed Celaena, and she did check the information because Arrobyn was the person she always could depend on. We need to remember the different age of Arrobyn and Celaena; Arrobyn has a lot more life experience than Celaena.
5. The Assassin and the Empire a 4-star story once again. It is the last prequel novella before The Throne of Glas's first book starts. Those of us that have read the first of this series know how this novella ends. The truth is I didn't want to end the way it did, but otherwise, we wouldn't have this series. Even though Celaena could find out a couple of times that the job was a setup, she doesn't; this is why I deducted a star from this novella. I love how Sarah J Maas built up this world, and her characters are fantastic. Readers that read this story say that this is the story that they cried. Even though I a person that cries very easily both in books and movies, this time, it didn't happen because I knew Sam's end because I read the first two books before reading this book.
My suggestion is that you start with this book and then move to the series's books. Now I can continue with the series (Heir of Fire). I have the next three books that are out, and thanks to God, I managed not to get spoiled about anything yet. Hopefully, it will continue this way. ( )

Well, this fills in the specifics of Celaena's story, and IT IS STILL NOT OKAY, SARAH J MAAS.

Yeah, that pile of weird red stuff splattered everywhere is MY BROKEN HEART. ( )
