"The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don't. As the kingdoms of Erilea fracture around her, enemies must become allies if Aelin is to keep those she loves from falling to the dark forces poised to claim her world"--… (mere)

I'm pissed. This book took me entirely too long to get through because it was an incredible snooze fest. Every book in this series has been a page-turner for me and has made me want to quit my job so I can read all day but this one was so hard for me to finish. It only picked up for the last 50 pages of the book and then left us with a horrible cliff hanger! This ending completely shattered my heart. Even more so than Nehemia's death or Aelin leaving Chaol at the end of Crown of Midnight so now I have to rush through Tower of Dawn so I can get to the last book UGH. I have a feeling I'm going to get very emotional with the ending of this series. ( )

Probably my least favorite so far in the series. For me it just drug in the middle and then had way to much crammed in at the end. I did like the story arc with Lorcan and Elide ( )

Amazing as ever!!!! kept me on an edge throughout the book. Plot gets more thrilling and compelling.
There isn't a single bland moment in the whole book. And the ending is so heart touching, at the same time I wanted to rip Maeve apart like Lysandra could, in sea dragon form at that.
My favourite book in this series so far. Can't wait to read the final installment. ( )

Listened to audio narrated really well by Elizabeth Evans.

The story starts in the past with Princess Elena Galathynius's and Galin's sacrifice, which only temporarily contained the evil prince. Their choices have led to all that has followed and what Celaena and the others must face today. We will finally get Elena's story, why has been helping Aelin all this time. I've definitely got mixed feelings about that, but I don't want to give everything away so I'll keep it to myself for now.

If your hoping this book is the final confrontation, you are in for disappointment. There's some good, some bad and some stuff somewhere in between, leaving me feeling a bit disgruntled by the last page.

The first part of the book Aelin becomes almost unlikeable, her confidence and swagger I'd come to enjoy in the previous books tipped over the edge to arrogance and bitch, but thankfully she returns to herself before the end of the book. Of course dealing with power hungry Lords trying to take over may do that to a person.

The author couples up almost all of our main characters, and Chaol only get's a sentence or two of mention as he's off hopefully being healed of his injuries from the previous book. Rowan and Aelin finally get to burn bright no matter the political cost and will pull at your heartstrings, even if some of their intimate moments, thinking only magical beings could do that.

Lorcan and Elide's relationship progression from hunter/hunted to so much more is predictable but enjoyable read and we knew Dorian and Manon were going to spark once they were reunited. This book was the steamiest of the series, flirting with a bit of kink as well giving the reader more graphic details.

We really get a roller coaster ride, with seeing the past, the betrayals, schemes and plans within plans, epic battles and so many different characters manipulating others to their own ends. Aelin has to reach deep to protect those she loves revealing the vastness of her power. It was an emotional as well as frustrating ending! OMG the ENDING!

My recomendation is have the next book handy because your going to need it to find out what happens next.

OH MY GOSH THAT ENDING. There's a lot of cute moments throughtout the book, with lots of characters. Some epic scenes too, where you go; HELL YEAH. Especially towards the end

Short about this book:

cute, well-rounded characters, good twists & plot, nice scenes, manon is my queen, elide is just lovely, aelin is kickass as usual and deserves none of the (mostly friendly) hate she gets from her friends/fellow characters or readers, derserves all the hate from enemies bc they better be terrified

- very similar to “a court of thorns and roses” and acomaf in places, sometimes it has very long action sequences that drag on, parts of the plot seems to be just planning or filler for the big reveals or scenes which i found a annoying while reading the book

I would have loved for certain explicit scenes to have been put in an additional novella or online or something, because as they had nothing to do with the plot, I found myself just annoyed at them? I wasn’t in the mood I guess, but had to go back and forth to see if I could skip the pages without someone interrupting them with a sword out or something *hah that wasn’t meant as an innuendo*.

Like in A court of Mist and Fire these scenes are contribute to the plot as well as show different sides of characters. In this book the sex scenes seems more like side-projects or well-written fanfic thrown into the rest, but still not connected with it. Does that makes sense?
Let’s be real; it’s just smut for smut’s sake. And nothing wrong about that, but:

1) it diffuses the line between ya and na to the point where I know it will make certain younger readers uncomfortable, or at least uncomfortable to admit they’ve read it (been there) and if it isn’t necessary, why? and
2) it was at the points in the book where i was just like; “can you get that crazy away from me so I can deal with the crazy that is Aelin’s war? WHat is this girl thinking?”
