Richard Betts is one of fewer than two hundred master sommeliers in the world, but he's no wine snob and he hates wine-speak. In the first book of its kind, he helps readers scratch and sniff their way to expertise by introducing the basic components of wine--the fruits, the wood, the earth--enabling anyone to discover the difference between a Syrah and a Sangiovese and get the glass they love every time. Humorously illustrated, with 16 scents, this irresistible gift puts the fun back in wine fundamentals.… (mere)

As promised, there aren't any fancy words in this picture book for grown-ups, so if you are looking to turn heads at a wine-tasting, this won't do it. However, it can still refine your tastes a little through "do you like this or that smell better?" Plus, it has a handy guide in the back to bring to the wine store.

Plainly, it is a fun grown-up scratch and sniff book. Fun! ( )

This book does a good job of explaining the major taste / smell components of wine so that one may be able to better describe and find wine one likes. ( )

Isn’t this fun? Yes, it’s a real scratch and sniff book. And, no, you probably won’t become a wine expert, but you will know lots more about this mysterious world. It’s not as tricky as you think. And it’s delightfully good fun. ( )
