Seeing Flowers is a visual feast that gloriously highlights 343 popular garden flowers. Using a unique photo process that includes stitching together large macro photographs, Robert Llewellyn reveals details that few have ever seen: the amazing architecture of stamens and pistils; the subtle shadings on a petal; the secret recesses of nectar tubes. Teri Dunn Chace's lyrical and illuminating essays complement these images and offer insights on each flower, by exploring its distinguishing characteristics and sharing fascinating tidbits, tales, and lore. Together, Llewellyn and Chace give the reader a deeper appreciation of how and why flowers have become so deeply embedded in human culture. Whether you're a nature lover, a gardener, a photography buff, or someone who simply responds to the timeless beauty and variety of the floral world, Seeing Flowers will be a source of enduring delight.… (mere)

If I needed to choose just one word, it would be VOLUPTUOUS!

Mr. Llewellyn's photography is stellar, and makes the book. Unlike Seeing Trees, which celebrated only 10 tree species in depth, this is a more methodical survey of the main botanic families. Breathtakingly beautiful. ( )

What astonished me was what that lone morning-glory blossom did later, indoors. Cut off from the sustenance provided by the vine, it slowly faded. That evening, I expected to encounter a crumpled mess - the texture is more frail than tissue paper. Instead, I found it had rolled up very neatly and evenly, like a petite striped umbrella. And at the very tip, there was a tidy, elaborate twist, like the finishing touch on a fancy job of gift-wrapping. It completely amazed me that the flower had the energy, wherewithal, and instinct to finish its life in this fashion. ...will I, in my own final moments one day, honor and retain the formI was born to and cultivated all my life, and do my best to finish in beauty?
