Science
The sense of taste
  Lou_Sanz | Jul 2, 2020 |
The book Taste describes one of the five senses. Some foods can taste good or bad. Food can tasted salty, sweet, strong, and sometimes like nothing at all. There is a scientific description in the back with a labeled picture of a tongue. This helps the reader understand the different parts of the tongue and what they are used for. I give this book five out of five stars because Maria Rius does a good job of describing what taste is in a simple way with several illustrations. I like how she highlights the vocabulary words such as: tongue, taste buds, sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and saliva. I would use this book in a science lesson to introduce the five senses. I think this book is appropriate for K-2 grades. ( )

Summary: This book is written for beginner readers. Although it was very simple, I thought it described taste in an accurate way and provided students with a tangible way to talk about what they tasted. I also felt like this book was a good introduction into teaching about how to use adjectives in writing.
Thoughts: I may not use this book as a teaching tool for all students, but I would like to have this series in my classroom. I think some students would find it very interesting and it is a good level for beginning readers.
Use/Strategy:

The majority of this book is simple, one word sentences about the way things taste. For example, sea water is salty and honey is sweet. The ending of the book contains a page of simplified information about the way we taste things, using our tongues!
