Having thoroughly enjoyed the Immortal Rules and the world in which Kagawa placed her fantastic characters in I was left expecting more from this novella.

Based on the title alone, Dawn of Eden, I had hoped that it would mean that the story would be about well the dawn of Eden. If you haven’t read the Immortal Rules I mean the place Eden that was created as a vampire free zone.

The story from the blurb is pretty simple, the world has been enduring the Red Lung plague and all hell is about to break loose as the rabids rise for the first time and every one who has died due to the Red Lung plague shall rise up again to be a mix between vampires and zombies only appearing at night ready to rip anyone breathing apart to shreds for the blood within.

I actually really liked the characters, Kylie was a headstrong I shall save everyone kind of person whilst Ben is a slow starter as a male lead. I could see where their tale was going but was constantly waiting for the epiphany that is Eden to come to one of them and for them to seek out the island to make a vampire free zone.

I got right to the end of the book and no such revelation occurred. Although I don’t feel I wasted my time due to the tale being interesting I did not find this novella as a whole to be all that informative to the series other than telling me more about the Red Lung plague, the way people suffer from it and the beginning of the rabid horde. Although I knew how the rabid horde started to read more about the reason why the rabids came about was interesting but not really what I expected given the title.

As a result unfortunately I can only give this one 3 stars, I adored the Immortal Rules and having nearly finishing the Eternity Cure I can say I love that too but the title alone of this one let it down for me due to such high story expectations. I can say I am really looking forward to the Forever Song but I could have lived without this title being added to the series. ( )
