This is a great book for children who are struggling with how to understand adoption. The book talks to the child as though it was their friend asking questions about their adoption. Also has great information on what it's like to be adopted and all the positives. Ages 3-6 Pierce County Library

This book is about a little girl who was adopted by a loving couple, she learns to love them as if they were her real parents. This book is perfect for a child or family who just adopted! Ages: 3-5. Source: Pierce County Library System

This story is about Samantha and how grateful she is to be adopted. It goes over her adoption story and the process.

This book is enjoyable because it is unique in the sense that it is written interactively. Joanna Cole tells a story, but she also offers the opportunity for the reader to discuss his/her feelings about being adopted – “Mommy told me that I was adopted. Were you adopted, too?” The illustrations show the main character, Samantha, in her bedroom and the text suggests a few of her interests before asking, “Can you see what else I like?” The illustrator, Maxie Chambliss, chose a soft color palette, and I noticed that the characters in the pictures are almost always smiling. This provides a warm, optimistic outlook on adopting children. The book is narrated from the point of view of a happy, young girl who wants to share her positive story of adoption. The big idea can be explained best in Joanna Cole’s own words when she says, “being a family is about love and spirit, not about blood ties.” ( )
