From Karin Slaughter comes a fast and furious tale in which no one is quite who they seem. This electrifying novella featuring Will Trent is a prequel to Slaughter's novel Unseen, a New York Times bestseller.

Detective Will Trent is standing in a Georgia convenience store, waiting on an obstinate ICEE frozen-drink machine. To the surveillance cameras and bored staff of the Lil' Dixie Gas-n-Go, however, Will appears to be someone very differentâ??the menacing ex-con Bill Black. Going undercover as Bill, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent is about to infiltrate the most corrupt town in the most corrupt county in the new American South. But first: his ICEE.

Everything changes in one horrific instant, as all hell breaks loose at the Lil' Dixie. A cop is shot. A bag of cash goes flying across the floor. A young woman disappears while a killer takes off in a battered pickup truck. Within seconds, Will is in pursuit.… (mere)

This was a short, fun read although not very involved. It was more of an intro to the next book in the series, which I've started, so that's how I know. If you're a fan, you will probably enjoy it, and it shows Will Trent in a role that's a bit different than his normal straight, well-dressed personna - quite a bit different, actually. ( )

This is an excellent novella. Karin Armstrong often writes fairly grim and violent mysteries, but seldom has the dialogue been as outrageously funny as in this short novella. ( )

Will Trent is undercover as Bill Black, an ex-con biker, when all hell breaks loose in the small convenience store as he waits for his Coke Icee. A robbery attempt, a cop shot, followed by the robber shot by his accomplice and Will races after the shooter on his bike, jeopardizing his cover. Will, and his partner Faith Mitchell, his boss Amanda Wagner have to solve the crime, with their only "witness" an elderly woman (Maw-Maw) quickly found to be unreliable at best. Lots of misdirection here. Would have been much better with another 20-40 pages.

Una storia corta corta di Will Trent, si legge ma mi piaccioni di più i romanzi. ( )
