the adventure and moral messaging remain engaging and fun; there continue to be inconsistencies that i think i've mostly forgotten to write about but that can be a bit annoying. still, this is leading up to what i expect to be a satisfying and probably both hard but worthy ending. it's a fun series. This is the Snotlout book. Hiccup gets to face the big questions, like 'how many times should you forgive someone' and 'don't Kings sometimes have to make hard decisions not to be Nice and Trusting, so they can do what is actually best?' The answer appears to be 'no, keep being Nice and Trusting, because people will change eventually'. Which is one of the reasons I think these books are so lovely, but also possibly not 100% true. Well, that and the dragons. ( )

The world is being torn apart. The dragons of the Red Rage and the Alvinsmen and the Dragonmarkers are all vying for control of the archipelago. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third is the only hope for the salvation of the world of Vikings and dragons as he knows it.
Hiccup is not the hero type. He is weak and small, bottom of the pirate training program on Berk (with the exception of his best friend Fishlegs).
This is the eleventh book of his story. How Hiccup became a hero the hard way. A tale of a boy and his dragon along with their friends who are fighting to save the world against the most improbable of odds.
I highly recommend this book to all. It is emotionally powerful, teaching that anyone can become a hero and walk on to face tomorrow. ( )
