This is a colorful book that is great for students to get inspired by. The adjectives and descriptive words makes it fun to read. ( )

When these three kids visit their grandpa they think there day is ruined by the rain. To their surprise he lets them go outside, stomp around, and gather fresh produce from the garden. The book takes you on a color adventure on all the different variety of fruits and vegetables. After they are done they go inside and make a stew with all the items they picked called Rainbow Stew.
This is a great book to teach children about colors. I would have the children have an open ended art experience and let them create a rainbow with all the colors we had in the classroom.
This is also a great book for discussions on how no matter what color our peers are like the stew, mixed together we can be something great! ( )

In this book three children and their grandfather pick fresh vegetables in his garden and then cook and share a meal of healthy vegetable stew. Itt is a neat way to get children involved in helping out with cooking a healthy, hearty meal. ( )

“Rainbow Stew” was an adorable poetry book that I enjoyed very much. First, I liked the book because it showcased how food can bring families together. In the beginning of the book three children wake up at their grandfather’s house to a rainy day. At first, they are sad by the rain because they can’t play outside but their grandfather says to them, “I know what we can do. Let’s go and find some colors for my famous Rainbow Stew!” I believe that food serves as the cornerstone of many families spending time together, and it was really cool to see that in this poem. The poem also showed the kids playing an important role in helping their grandfather cook the stew, which I thought was a great way to showcase how food bonds people as well. One of the lines says “peel, slice, chop, and dice, colors fills the pot. Stir in herbs and water and then wait till it gets hot.” The illustration for these lines showed the kids chopping all the vegetables to put in the stew and helping their grandfather stir the stew. I also liked this book because it shows people that even the most seemingly boring days can be made memorable and fun. In the beginning of the poem the children were upset by the rain and thought that their day was ruined. However, their grandfather suggested something different for them to do which made for an unexpectedly enjoyable day. I believe the big idea of, “Rainbow Stew” is to highlight the ways food can bring people together and make even the most ordinary day a celebration. I believe another big idea is to show that even though the plans for a day may change that doesn’t mean the day is ruined, it just means there is something even better and more fun to do. ( )

Well-done!

"Whimper, sigh, cloudy, sky,
Is it too wet to play?
We don't want to stay inside
because of rain today.

Grandpa smiles and says to us,
"I know what we can do.
Let's go and find some colors
for my famous Rainbow Stew!""

Filled with love and frolicking fun, Rainbow Stew is a tasty delight! (Be sure to try the recipe)
