Superior collection of stories has quite a bit of variety, with the only thing in common being that most are classics. Thus we have Daniel Keyes' unforgettable Flowers for Algernon in the same volume as a John Collier gem and two of Jack Finney's finest. Throw in Daphne DuMaurier's The Birds, which re-reading after many years, is absolutely terrifying, and a typically nasty Roald Dahl story, and you have a collection you won't be able to put down. On a lesser note, Shirley Jackson's contribution is amusing; Margaret St. Clair's The Perfectionist, less so. The other story in the collection, Lord Dunsany's Two Bottles of Relish goes on too long, but saves itself with its classic final line, which adds a knife twist to the ending you knew was coming all along. ( ) This is one of the few Non-SF/F Anthologies I own and I've kept it all these years because of the excellent quality of the stories. They are at once chilling and absorbing as all the best suspense stories are. My particular favorites are Two Bottles Of Relish by Lord Dunsany because of the horrid and fiendish twist and Of Missing Persons by Jack Finney for the world he described so vividly that I still want to go there. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
