Life was quiet in Dry Oaks, Montana, and that was the way Sheriff Jeremiah Bates liked it.  When a cattle drive hit town, he expected the usual lot of drinkin', gamblin', whorin' cow hands - but the feelings cowboy Duke Milo aroused in him were anything but usual.

I’ve just finished it and my overall impression is that the writing is simple and concise and that the Sheriff is a bit of a dirty old man! Bates brings a drunken Duke home with him after offering him a bath, a meal, and a bed for the night. He insists that Duke take a bath before dinner and proceeds to watch while the younger man bathes. At first, I thought Bates was attempting to manipulate an impaired Duke into bed with him, but, thankfully, that wasn’t quite the case. In the end, Bates makes his interest known and leaves things open for Duke to make his own decision. The conclusion is actually rather sweet, if straight-forward. I was impressed with the clear writing style so I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.http://iheartpaperbacks.wordpress.com ( )
