Gone is the 6th book of the Michael Bennett series and I am a sucker for a good mystery. I love this series and in particular this book. Michael Bennett is a NYPD detective with ten kids who are currently in witness protection due to a notorious drug lord named Manuel Perrine set out a wanted sign for anyone Bennett cares about. This is what gets the Bennett clan from the loud noisy state of New York to a quiet farm in California. When Mike's friend Emily Parker comes to visit them from the FBI, to get Mike back on the case to hunt down Manuel Perrine will this plan backfire and get his family into more trouble? The intended audience would be high-school, 9-12.

I would allow students to pick a book every 9 weeks, so at the end of the year there will be four books. (compound) I then would have them pick different genres and do different assignments with their books, they would have to be checked off by the teacher and approved. Then they would have until the week nine of the nine weeks to turn it in.

Gone resumes the story where I, Michael Bennett finished on it's cliff hanger with the Bennett family forced into witness protection after an assassination attempt by the cartel.

Now, numerous months later Manuel Perrine, cartel head, man responsible for Bennett's family being in hiding, has continued his reign of terror and only become more bloodthirsty and violent whilst the Bennett family has begun to fit into farm life and Bennett himself is slowly going stir crazy. With no new leads and lacking investigative direction on the Perrine case the decision is made to bring the one man who managed to apprehend Perrine, Detective Michael Bennett, back in.

It's quite the action filled romp with Perrine effectively going against the might of the US Government after poking the bear one too many times. Like the prior books it's got a pretty snappy pace and there's still the on again off again romance with Mary Catherine, this time a US Marshall also capturing some of her attention. ( )

This is a really fast read. I could hardly put it down. I love books like this that scoop you up and take you away. The books like so many other series books are predictable but yet enjoyable because of the few twists and tweaks. I look forward to the new installments of the various series that Patterson puts out. Looking forward to the Bennett s getting back to Manhattan and moving along with their lives. ( )
