Great prequel to Watersong series. Fills in some details about the boad accident 5 years before Wake. Also answers the question about what the other 3 sirens were doing right before the beginning of Wake. My copy of Lullaby is on its way. The story may answer some questions about that. ( )

I really loved "Wake" and I jumped all over this novella when it was released but I have to say it was just ok. It tells in more detail the events of the night of Daniel's boat crash. We know what happened because of that night already from reading "Wake". Yes there is a nice new addition to this story regarding Aggie, one of the original siren sisters. There was also a super brief visit with all the sirens at the end of the novella which leads to Aggie's tragic demise. However I finished this short story this morning. By early afternoon I literally couldn't remember anything about the story for a few minutes except for that vivid boat crash. I grabbed my kindle and went back and skimmed the story as a refresher. The short was entertaining but it isn't necessary to the series. It was a very brief and entertaining hold me over but nothing more. I don't regret spending the 1.99 on it but I spent on it but I could have lived without reading it as well. ( )

Forgotten Lyrics is essentially a prologue to the Watersong series. The novella follows the horrific boating accident that changed Daniel’s life and made him into the person he is today. I loved reading about that particular event because it helps the reader to understand more about Daniel—he was so young when it happened and he was still so brave.

We also meet the missing forth sister: Aggie. What exactly happened to Aggie? Why do Penn, Lexi, & Thea need to replace her at all? Where did she go and why? Well we get the answer to that question in this novella and it makes me even more afraid for Gemma.

While it is not necessary to read Forgotten Lyrics to understand the events in Wake, I really did like learning more about Daniel & Aggie. I actually have a few more questions about Daniel’s resistance to siren magic that I am hoping will be answered in Lullaby (coming November 2012). If you are a fan of the Watersong series, you will enjoy this chance to further immerse yourself in the world Hocking has created. ( )
