79-year-old Martha Anderson dreams of escaping her care home and robbing a bank. She has no intention of spending the rest of her days in an armchair and is determined to fund her way to a much more exciting life-style. Along with her four oldest friends - otherwise known as the League of Pensioners - Martha decides to rebel against all of the rules imposed upon them. Together, they cause an uproar with their antics: protesting against early bedtimes and plastic meals. As the elderly friends become more daring, their activities escalate and they come up with a cunning plan to break out of the care home and land themselves in a far more attractive Stockholm establishment. With the aid of their Zimmer frames, they resolve to stand up for old aged pensioners everywhere - Robin Hood style. And that's when the adventure really takes off.… (mere)

Bailing at 20%. Based on the reviews of others, this may be a case of being lost in translation. I'm just so horribly bored. The one part I found really funny is when the MC talks about how she wanted her friends group to buy an old mansion with a moat for their retirement. That way, when the police or family members came to pester them, they could just lift the drawbridge.

Very lighthearted, implausible. I just did not connect with this book. The oldies at the Retirement home are unhappy with the care they are receiving for the money they pay. The management is cost cutting too for their own benefit and engaging in inappropriate liaisons. A small band of close friends at the home decide to make a break for it and live it up. ( )

Charming tall tale about a group of geriatrics who plan a heist so that they can afford to escape their humdrum retirement home. Slightly silly but very cute. ( )

Five residents of a retirement home are bored, and tired of budget cuts that are making their lives less pleasant, so they decide to try their hands at crime. Sounds like a fun story, a bit of fluff. It wasn't The book, at about 400 pages, was much too long for the story. Of course, it was silly and completely unbelievable. But it was also boring. And annoying. The author seems to have an obsession with Zimmer frames, and I got really tired of reading about them. The writing was stilted and felt amateurish to me. Perhaps most or some of the fault lies in the translation, but no matter who was responsible for it, I was not entertained. The point seemed to be that older people can be capable, and deserve better treatment. Well, this old lady is capable, too, and I deserve better books than this one. ( )

The idea behind the novel was ingenius. The execution in writing was not good. The character development was not good. The translation into English was poor. ( )
