"Molly Murphy--now Molly Sullivan--is a year into her marriage, expecting her first child, and confined to the life of a housewife. The most important decision Molly faces these days is whether the lace curtains need cleaning, and she's restless and irritable in the heat of a New York summer and the enforced idleness of pregnancy. So when a trip to the post office brings a letter addressed to her old detective agency asking her to locate a missing Irish serving maid, Molly figures it couldn't hurt to at least ask around, despite her promise to Daniel to give up her old career as a detective. On the same day, Molly learns that five babies have been kidnapped in the past month. Refusing to let Molly help with the kidnapping investigation, Daniel sends her away to spend the summer with his mother. But even in the quiet, leafy suburbs, Molly's own pending motherhood makes her unable to ignore these missing children. What she uncovers will lead her on a terrifying journey through all levels of society, putting her life--and that of her baby's--in danger. The latest entry in Rhys Bowen's bestselling Molly Murphy series will delight fans and win over newcomers with its elegantly plotted mystery and vivid characters"--… (mere)

Molly Murphy Sullivan has been married a year and is expecting her first child. She received a letter from a family in Ireland asking her to locate their niece, Maureen, a recent immigrant who they have not heard from in about a year. Molly is finding it difficult to be just a housewife so while on vacation to her mother-in-law's house she begins a low-key investigation even though she is not supposed to do this. Meanwhile, babies are being kidnapped off the streets in NYC and the Federal government is seeking some Irish Brotherhood members who are in the US illegally and planning a bombing. ( )

I thought this was a good book for the series. Although I've never been pregnant I can imagine it would be uncomfortable to say the least in the summer in those times. Molly always up for a challenge, tackled the mysteries and used her confinement to her advantage. I'm looking forward to seeing how she works with a baby in tow. ( )

The summer in New York is hot and miserable, especially for a very pregnant Molly Sullivan. But, Molly is determined to endure it and be the doting wife that Daniel deserves. Now that she is no longer a detective, Molly finds herself bored with the mundane life of a housewife.

But, when she receives a letter in the mail from Ireland from a family looking for a lost love, she assumes that she can ask around without breaking her promise to Daniel. What harm could it be to find a parlor maid? As she is inquiring at an employment agency, Molly is only steps away from kidnapping. And to her horror, Daniel arrives on the scene looking none to happy to see his wife, who should be at home, in the middle of the scene.

Molly begrudgingly agrees to go visit Daniel's mother because of her fragile state, and while at tea with Daniel's mother overhears the name of the parlor maid's previous employer....and of course, Molly can't let go of a lead... ( )

Rhys Bowen is a one trick pony, she puts all of her eggs in one basket. She puts her heroine through all sorts of trial and blackmails her readers to bond fiercely with her. When that ploy works the books are a delicacy. Here, however, I wasn't buying into her 'blarney'. Molly is a serial investigator. She is forbidden to solve crimes, something which she does like clockwork. I have no empathy or sympathy for Molly as from this book. She keeps asking for trouble. Courting disaster and surviving it are two inevitable things that will keep occurring. It'll be puzzling to see if some kind of growth happens. If the situation with this series stay at its current status quo, I can envisage not following the tribulations of this series. ( )

Since this story is centered on family and religion, I am proud to dedicate the book to my brother, Father Frank Neville Lee, who after a high-powered career as a marketing director has now been ordained an Anglican priest. Our mother would have been so proud.
