Available for the first time in 25 years, this book of songs and sheet music, a collaboration between J. R. R. Tolkien and the composer Donald Swann, will delight Tolkien fans everywhere as the book to stand beside their copies of Lord of The Rings, the essays, poems and calendars. Donald Swann was from Flanders and Swann who wrote comedic music like Mud Mud Glorious Mud, Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood.

I liked this music better than many more serious musicians I knew did when it came out, especially Namarie and Treebeard's Song ( )

Donald Swann has put some of J. R. R. Tolkien's poems from "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" to music. In my opinion he did an excellent job of capturing the feeling of the poem in the music and I was disappointed when they were not used in the recent film adaptation of the stories. An excellent buy, particularly if you can play the piano or the guitar accompaniment.

Of interest to the non-musician are the translations of two elvish poems: "Namárië" and "A Elbereth Gilthoniel." ( )
