6/10, it was ok, my library gave this away because it was too old or something like that. ( )

This story chronicles the lives and correspondence between two adolescent girls, one whose brother is fighting in Iraq, and the other who lives in Iraq.

Liked it quite a bit as I was reading -- it dealt thoughtfully with a number of issues that are rare in MG (a brother with Down syndrome, the grey areas around the Iraq War), while providing plenty of everyday friendship and boy drama to keep middle schoolers reading. I find it hasn't stuck with me enough to elevate it to a favorite. ( )

Cassie enjoys 7th grade and running with her older brother Sef. When he joins the Marines and goes to Iraq, her family begins to fall apart.

Cassie's brother is of to fight the war in Iraq. Her family is not quit sure how to put their life's as normal as possible with him fighting on the other side of the world, including Cassie. On top of that she lost her best friend. Her sister is not talking to her anymore, they tease her brother with Down syndrome even more, and her parents are constantly fighting. Through an assignment at school she finds a girl in Iraq who tells her what it's like to be in the middle of the fighting which gives Cassie a different perspective. ( )
