Some stories were good, some were interesting, but most of the stories did not stick with me, like good stories should. ( )This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. A good collection of horror stories. This is something I would grab for a short read here and there. I wasn't overly amazed nor terribly disappointed- a good read. Multiple author short story collections are notoriously difficult to review: the art of packing a whole lot of world building into a small space is difficult enough without the plethora of voices and it takes a singular editor to make the whole an enjoyable experience. Karen Henderson mostly manages to present a decent collection of horror and chillers, which not only scare and unnerve, but make you think and feel. Cleverly, the new stories are broken up by three classics from the masters of the art: Twain, Poe, and de Maupassant so even if you can't find something you like the promise of an old favourite will keep you going. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I was a bit underwhelmed by this collection of horror stories. There was a good range of stories here, from classic stories by Mark Twain and Edgar Allen Poe to stories by authors not known to me. There were a few stories which held my interest and had me guessing what might happen, but only a few. Like Father, Like Daughter and Product 9 were not bad; Corridors had a very interesting premise, I just wished it had been developed a bit more; and Depths was a very interesting story. There were other stories that left no impression at all. So, as is typical in many anthologies, there were highlights and there were lowlights. I feel that some of the stories feel flat compared to some of the classics that were in the book, but overall a solid read. This is a book that I would read again if I was looking for something to pass the time. I can go through, pick out my favorites, and lose myself for 10 minutes at a time. :) ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
