This is a story about children who's family face the destruction of AIDS. All of the stories were different, but they were all affected by the disease. Some childcare lost a parent, or both, and some children were suffering from it themselves. What was a common theme was the fact that the disease is taboo and really not talked about. ( )

The mater-of-fact voices of the children, the sepia-tined photographs, and the facts on the plight of the children is a sobering read. The loss, fear, and grief is powerfully communicated through the simple stories of her subjects. Within the stories there is a strong impression of courage and determination with hope for the future. A very thought provoking book. ( )

This book consists of one page interviews of children living in Malawi and Zambia, Africa, who have been orphaned by the AIDS crisis in their countries. Throughout the book are sidebars with the devastating facts about AIDS and those affected by it. This book will break your heart as you read these life-stories of such young children told from their point of view. If you really want to understand the crisis going on right now in Africa, this is a must read book. ( )
