Jim is a young man who grew up reading tales of pirates and adventures on the high seas, and longs for similar excitement in his own life. One day a dying man hands him a map and gives him a warning. A gorgeous looking film that retains the Disney charm and humour and does a splendid job with the key Silver/Hawkins relationship from the novel, but is missing the little extra on the plot front to make it truly memorable. It thus falls short of the top echelon of Disney animated classics, but that is a very high bar to clear -- this film is well worth your time even so. ( )
An updated variation of "Treasure Island." Okay for the target audience of tweens and teens. The humor is much too broad for most adults, although my 30+ son likes it for just that reason. ( )
