In this version of Frankenstein, Fiona Macdonald tells the story of how a scientist creates a monster from parts he has taken from graves and tombs. This graphic novel is a well presented introduction to Mary Shlelley’s Frankenstein. Several footnotes are present throughout the book in order to help readers understand the more formal writing style. The illustrations and text do an excellent job of keeping the mood of the book somber by using muted colors. I found the story line to be broken up without any flow. Although the text does not develop the characters, the illustrations do a phenomenal job of showing us the characters emotions and how they change throughout the plot. Overall, this adaptation was a strong first read for a graphic novel and has sparked my interest for reading the classic Mary Shelley novel. Victor Frankenstein is a science student attracted by the secrets of life, eventually he finds out how to give life to a dead body: the Creature is born. After that, Victor feels of guilty led him following the Creature all over the world, at the end they meet each other to the North Pole. The Creature is lucky because the crew of John Franklin after several years will be there. This graphic novel is well done for the first look at the Frankenstein story, otherwise, those who already know Mary Shelley and her book, could find this novel spoiled. Very useful the last pages of the book with further information: Mary Shelley’s biography, scientific discoveries at the time of Frankenstein, and Frankenstein films. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

It’s Frankenstein. Who the hell doesn’t know about Frankenstein? Oh, and by the way, Victor Frankenstein is the creator of the Creature. The Creature is not called Frankenstein. Just sayin’.
This is yet another one of those classics I haven’t gotten around to reading. I will someday. Since I haven’t read the original I can’t say how well the adaptation is, but I enjoyed the story and I will give the original a try one of these days. The illustrations are pretty good, though the Creature looks a bit different than I thought he would. However, considering the only Frankenstein movie I’ve seen is Young Frankenstein that’s to be expected. lol I would say this is a good book for someone wanting to read Frankenstein’s story without wading through the old-timey prose (1818, people!) of the original. Or maybe to read as a springboard before tackling the original. ( )
