First comes the red rain: a strange, scarlet downpour from a cloudless sky that spreads across cities, nations, and the entire globe. In a matter of panicked hours, every living thing on earth succumbs to swift, bloody death. With only wits, weapons, and a bicycle, Emily must undertake a grueling journey across a country that's turning increasingly alien. For though she fears she's been left to inherit the earth, the truth is far more terrifying than a lifetime of solitude.… (mere)

I really enjoyed "Extinction Point", sneaking in moments to read another chapter or two throughout the day. It falls squarely into the post-apocalyptic genre, managing to touch upon many of the common tropes while still managing to maintain a fairly unique premise. I actually enjoyed reading about Emily's transitions as she deals with various new mysteries, and I liked the humanity behind her character - even if I didn't always like her character's reactions or thoughts. The pacing of the book was a bit odd at turns, occasionally feeling like a string of consecutive short stories, but upon further reflection, that is probably the only way to accurately compose a book like this. There were also occasional bumps in the road gramatically, but nothing that detracted from the story terribly. I've definitely got the sequel on my wish list and am looking forward to it! ( )

I thought the main character was kinda stupid at points, but interesting concept. Leaves off on a bit of a cliffhanger.... ( )

A unique twist to the end of the world. I was captivated by the main character, which kept me wanting more. ( )

Nothing startlingly original, but a worthwhile read, with an engaging and feisty protagonist, some moments of genuine suspense, a whiff of visceral horror, and enough action to keep the pages turning until the end. I have problems accepting that there is just one survivor in the whole of NY, although this works well to establish Emily's isolation and her resourcefulness. And the aliens are both suitably creepy and and have a viable biology, but the sudden evolution of vicious dog creatures at the end when the fact the aliens were simply not interested in humanity had already been pointedly established was jarring. Still, for a very cheap price, this is a good little book, well worth the time. ( )

I Read all 3 books - for some reason book 3 was not an option for my book collection.

The book was very detailed- at times too much- The alien bad guys were very scary and their approach to taking over the planet was unique. Some parts very imaginative and well - gross. I am conflicted on whether I like or don't like the parts that never got connected to each other. Questions with no answers. Hmmmm. But I have to say I have read a lot of trilogies lately and this is the one that I think about when my mind is wandering. Excellent read overall. ( )

"Think "Day of the Triffids" meets "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" meets "I am Legend" and you still won't have grasped the full scope of the apocalypse in Paul Jones' artfully crafted tale of extinction and survival."

"'Surprised' and 'fun' are the key words I associate with this book. Surprised, because I thought, what can you tell about the end of the world that we have not heard yet?"
