Introduction: I read this book from start to finish
Cons: The characters are one dimensional, like stick figures. There were too many miracles with not enough supporting details. For example: the Police was doing an investigation report about body from the boat crash. I would have liked to read a bonus chapter about the investigations from the Police's perspective.

I can't relate with the main character, Brad. Brad married his girlfreind, and settled into a life with two kids, with a job that he didn't like. I like stories where I can related to the main character(s), and this was not the book. I would have stopped reading this after a few chapters if my friend didn't have this book in his library.

I don't like the writer's style. For example, In a Goodreads featured quote for The Big Picture, Douglas Kennedy ends the paragraph with "... And though just about every man I know rails against being so cul-de-saced by domesic burden, we all embrace it. Embrace it with a vengeance.” The embrace it with a vengeance part didn't make sense for me. The author uses a lot of curse words. I don't like curse words because it brings cognitive distortions.

Pros: The actions scenes, like when the car blew up, and the car almost crash the truck in the snowy highway then swerved down the rocky hill was described quickly with minimal words, to make the book read like a thriller movie (although this feeling is only ephemeral)
Conclusion: My rating is 1/5. ( )

I was really impressed by Douglas Kennedy's second book, The Job. It was a great read but somehow I had gotten the impression it was his first novel. Wrong. The Big Picture is his first novel and it is also excellent. It's not quite as polished as The Job, but a good read nonetheless. Ben Bradford is a Wall Street estates and trusts attorney who makes excellent money. He has a lovely wife, a home in Connecticut, two small sons and a fun hobby. And from his vantage point, his life sucks. Somewhere along the way he made good choices that just weren't the right ones. And then he accidentally kills the guy his wife is having a fling with. Kennedy is a plot master. His stories move right along and pull the characters with them. Hope he's working on number 3. ( )

I remember being shocked a few times and the suspense kept me reading. ( )

En udda historia med ett härrligt driv i berättandet. Det är en bladvänddare och riktigt spännande. Lite för otroligt slut men som spänningsroman är den riktigt bra. ( )
