I listened to this book with my 12-year-old, and we both enjoyed it. He was bothered by the breaking of the fourth wall, the way Tandy, the narrator, would address the reader (listener) directly, but, other than that, we liked it. And he was very glad that he doesn't have Malcolm and Maude Angel for parents. ;) ( )

I really enjoyed the writing style, but it did start to get quite annoying. There were so many snippets and a lot of teasing without much substance behind it. I understand they want to leave some for the next book, but it would have been good to have learned a bit more detail about their lives.

I mostly liked Tandy, although she was a bit insufferable at times. She is one of those characters who knows absolutely everything, and yet is still really stupid. She jumps to conclusions, doesn't approach is very analytically at all, and takes a long time to come to conclusions.

I disliked that the character whose bisexuality is hinted at is also the coldest, possibly villainous, character. Stop using the LGBT villain trope, it's tired and boring, and it would have been so much better to have one of the children identified as LGBT.

It wasn't terrible, but it definitely could have been better. ( )

Read this because I had read another further along in the series, and I wanted to know how it all started. Tandy Angel is the daughter of mega rich parents who own a pharmaceutical company. One night her parents are killed and no-one has access to their impenetrable New York apartment. Only Tandy, her twin brother Harry, her little brother Hugo and her mother's personal assistant were there that night. Could one of them have killed them? And what about Tandy's Uncle Peter who stands to gain the most, not to mention her older brother Matthew who hated his parents with a passion?
Tandy makes it her mission to try and find out what happened and on the way she uncovers some very dark secrets in her parent's life. The biggest one is that all the Angel children seem to have been given performance enhancing drugs from birth, hence the reason why Tandy is so smart, Harry is musically gifted, Matthew is a super athlete and Hugo has the strength of a man even though he is only 10.
Could one of the brothers have found out and killed them? Or, was it Tandy herself, the unreliable narrator, who has gaps in her memory from therapy and drugs, who decided to kill her parents?

Patterson's style is very easy to read but I kept feeling that it was a all a bit trite and not really fleshed out as a story. I'm sure that YA will love it, but I just thought bits were way to convenient, i.e Tandy finding the locket that uncovers her mother's affair and also the key that unlocks a secret lab - all a bit too easy. Wow. James Patterson has done it again. This book started off very differently from his others, but you can still tell it is written by him. I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, but the story quickly pulled me in and made it hard to put it down. As always, James Patterson has another great success! I can't wait to read the next one! ( )

I really did enjoy this book. I like the narrator, Tandy. I enjoy how it's narrated! That's what really made me get into it. I liked how you never really knew who did it until the end. You think you suspect one person, then something comes up that gives you doubt, even if its just the smallest amount of doubt.

The closer I got to the end of the book, I had the I like it BUT... thing going, well, that but is gone, kinda...I think the but was the fact it was a little longer than I thought I should have been, a bit drawn out and too much information in some areas, but other than that, I still really liked it.

This was my first James Patterson book. I do plan on reading book 2 in this series (I guess it's a series, or a duo-logy..I only know of the second book)...The second book is called "The Private School Murders (Confessions, #2)" and it looks like it's due to come out October 7, 2013.

If you like James Patterson, you've never read him, or even iffy about him, this book is worth a try. This is one of his YA novels.

Reading this book makes me want to at least take a second look at his others, even if I don't get into the others....I am willing to at least see if I'd be willing to try..
