"In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears into 1743...Now the story continues in Written in My Own Heart's Blood. 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife, his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is, and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie's wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces. The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in twentieth-century Scotland, or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family's secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself"--Provided by publisher.… (mere)

Top 3 of my favorite in the Outlander series!!! My only wish is that less time was spent on the battle and more on the "stuff" after the battle. I felt as thought it was a bit rushed. ( )

Started in 2014, finished in 2016. Started it nearly 2 years ago and got distracted by other books. Finally finished it! I truly love these stories, but so much time passes that I lose the many individual plots. Ready for the next installment. ( )

Whew!

I am thankful this ended as well as it did! Perhaps one of the easier ones to read through. I didn't feel as though my heart was in my throat quite as much in this one! ( )

this chapter in the saga of Jaime and Claire and family was good. there were some slow parts but most of the book kept you interested to see where it would go. ended with some old friends returning to the ridge and left you looking forward to book 9 ( )

Not the best in the series. Not a lot of character development, lots of gratuitous sex that is starting to remind me of that "shades" series. Everybody gets into the same kinds of predictable scrapes that they always do, and some of the plot surrounding Brianna and her family in modern times just doesn't hang together very well. ( )
