"Outside Your Window: A First Book of Nature" is a sweet story with beautifully illustrated pages that are sure to hold the attention of its child audience. The collection of free-verse poems invite you to make your own observations as the book journeys through the seasons, starting with spring. It is a sure way to introduce children to the experience of nature-- using all the senses of sight, smell, feeling and sound-- and perhaps spark an admiration and love for it. This is an excellent book that offers a wide variety of classroom lesson topics: Poetry, theme, the "circle of life", art, patterns, rhyming, bugs and animals, creative writing, mood, and more. Perfect to read aloud at a library story time or for a bedtime story. In this book kids learn about different aspects of nature like birds and nests, winter snow, apples, acorns, and more. The theme of this poetry book is nature. The contents are organized by season. The illustrations seem to be mixed media collage and pastel. They are bright and clearly illustrate the theme of each poem. I LOVE this book. One of my favorite poetry books. It engages children to learn more about nature with its poems and amazing illustrations. It shows great topics of nature, like seasons, animals, and trees. Great to read when learning about the nature, animals, seasons, weather, etc. This is a good example of a informational book because it captures all the sights and sounds during the summertime and wintertime and how nature adapts to the different seasons. This book gets children interactive in what they can see throughout nature like planting an acorn seed, watching birds fly, and so many more. It also has poetry to tell the facts about the nature that we have around us. The illustrations are vivid and capturing for readers to want to keep looking at.
