Started 2007, I Wrote This For You is an acclaimed exploration of hauntingly beautiful words, photography and emotion that's unique to each person who reads it. This book gathers together nearly 200 of the most beautiful entries into four distinct chapters; Sun, Moon, Stars, Rain. Together with several new and exclusive poems that don't appear anywhere else, each chapter of I Wrote This For You focuses on a different facet of life, love, loss, beginnings and endings.… (mere)

A great and moving collection of poetry coupled with stunning photographs, "I Wrote This For You" is something never-to-be-forgotten. While reading, I felt chills. I felt tears. I felt happiness. Such a work is truly a gift to read. ( )

Giving 2.5. I didn't particularly like this book until I reached the last 20 or so pages. I may just be missing the point of it that my younger self would have appreciated more. ( )

It’s when you hold eye contact for that second too long or maybe the way you laugh. It sets off a flash and our memories take a picture of who we are at that point when we first know 'This is love.'

And we clutch that picture to our hearts because we expect each other to always be the people in that picture. But people change. People aren’t pictures. And you can either take a new picture or throw the old one away.

Some of the poems here are the stuff of eye-roll-inducing Facebook memes. But some of them are highly affecting. ( )

Re: I Wrote This for You

Dear Mr. Thomas,

You have already noted on my Instagram that I have purchased two of your books simultaneously. I skimmed through the pages, read lines and fell knowing that it’s a piece of art. I was touched when you reached out for a short message because for the first time I found in writing, someone else that understood the magnitude of feeling connected to a stranger.

I watched a clip of your Ted Talk after I read your poems or what you like to call short stories. You talk about the way we change how we are reading: news, online posts and even books. You captivate me and you are right, sometimes it was with just one line.

I put a sticky note on several pages (25, 29, 50, 69, 73,95,100,116, 118, 131, 148) because those are the ones that got me the most. I like to add that here because it tells a bit of my story in yours. After 10 years of work, how did I not find you sooner?

Best,

ANS

PS. I wonder who relates the poems to someone other than a lover. ( )

I am not sure that the book was written for me. I think this book was written for those who love to think this is magic from words that were hitherto tired and dusted with overuse. ( )
