I didn't expect to like this book as it is of a genre that I seldom read and the beginning was rather boring. However, the story picked up when Marian began to deal with her feelings and began to accept Kirby. Here, the alternation of the protagonist's voice works very well as it brings out their feelings and thoughts perfectly. Even when describing the other person, it works very well too. Kirby's mom is scared that she may lose her daughter but as readers, we know that Kirby is 'loyal' to the parents who brought her up and always calls them 'my' mom and dad. Kirby's relationship with Marian is more like friends. We, the readers, have insight into this. As for the ending, it leaves readers to imagine and hope that Marian and Conrad can be together again. I don't mind reading a sequel, if there is one, on their reconciliation. ( )

My first thought when reading this book was if Jennifer Weiner ( I finished her new back last week) and Emily Giffin conspired to have their main characters both be in television.

Anyway, as usual I was excited to get this book and one angry email to a unnamed store and a quick trip across town and I had it in my possession.
Overall, I really enjoyed the store. The main characters weren't the easiest for me to relate to, but I really enjoyed reading about them. I loved Kirby's point of view and her struggle being not just an 18 year old, HS senior, but the adoption angle as well.

I have mixed feelings on the ending. Of course part of me wanted a "happy/storybook" ending, but I also liked that the ending wasn't as predictable as it could have been. I admit, I do like nice, tidy packages, but I was able to appreciate this one as well.

I also love how EG, updates us on characters from past books, this time Claudia and Ross from Baby Proof.

While this isn't my favorite EG book, I still really enjoyed it and recommended strongly. I can't wait to add it to the pastel toned EG section of my bookshelf. ( )

The overall theme and concept of deciding to not tell the father about the pregnancy, the feelings of giving a baby for adoption, the reactions that family members have is all well thought out and discussed. The attitude of Marion not really caring about her secret until the boyfriend Peter pushes the issue bothered me. Understood Peter not wanting to start all over with a baby. Amazed at the intensity of Kirby wanting to find her birth parents. Turned out much better than it would have in real life. Conrad became a really nice first love. ( )

I really liked this book. Marian is an eighteen year old that finds herself pregnant but does not tell her boyfriend and instead breaks up with him. She gives the baby up for adoption. Fast forward eighteen years and her baby, Kirby has found her through the adoption files. This is really a straightforward book about relationships and what can go wrong and what can go right. I really liked this book and almost couldn't put it down! ( )

I read this book and listened to another, on audio, at the same time. They had so many similarities that they've blurred together in my mind. Thank goodness I liked them both! ( )
