Sweet, but too easy.

*****

Second time around reading this, and unfortunately, I liked it a little less. I DO like the idea behind it all, but I find the dialogue-driven plot incredibly stilted and much of the emotion unconvincing. I really wish the story started at least half way through with more meat given to it, and I am way more curious to hear about Ari's life after he finally makes his realization. ( )

The story is so beautiful. The process of their friendship growing is just so interesting. As you go along it’s almost as if you forget what you are there for. I loved the setting and the story and the characters. It was just a really good book. ( )

Well! this is the most awesome book that u will find now that doesn't make you feel like u r reading a m/m romance book. It's just written so ecstatically that u would want to just go with the flow and even binge read it. It helps us understand that even being from a different culture(i.e. Mexico) the love can still be a very sweet, genderless thing. It makes you long for love, friendship and what Aristotle and Dante had specially. No secrets were harmed during their discovery. ( )

What a funny, warm and sometimes heartbreaking story about first love and being true to yourself. I devoured this book in a couple of hours today and find myself still thinking about it several hours later. I enjoyed the way Ari's parents dealt with their issues in an honest and open way while still showing their love and being parental. Dante's parents were amazing and I kind of wanted to be in the book if only for a little while. ( )

Beautiful, beautiful book. It felt like a rare opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a teenage boy. A lot of YA books are told through the eyes of girls, so this was a treat.

An amazing thing about this book: both Ari and Dante have awesome, involved, caring parents, something that's nearly unheard of in YA novels. A story that's able to be interesting and teenagers who are able to evolve while having parents who know what's going on in their lives. Amazing. :) ( )

Why do we smile? Why do we laugh? Why do we feel alone? Why are we sad and confused? Why do we read poetry? Why do we cry when we see a painting? Why is there a riot in the heart when we love? Why do we feel shame? What is that thing in the pit of your stomach called desire?

One summer night I fell asleep, hoping the world would be different when I woke. In the morning, when I opened my eyes, the world was the same.

I got to thinking that poems were like people. Some people you got right off the bat. Some people you just didn't get - and never would get. (p. 29)
The whole world seemed to be quiet and calm and I wanted to be the world and feel like that. (p. 105)
My mother and father held hands. I wondered what that was like, to hold someone's hand. I bet you could sometimes find all of the mysteries of the universe in someone's hand. (p. 140)
