I received this from the author in ebook format via www.goodreads.com in exchange for a review.

Kali is a well known member of an international Search and Rescue team along with her dog Shiloh. A long term relationship has finished before the book starts, and that, combined with recent losses of survivors in Mexico, has resulted in Kali shutting down emotionally, even to her closest friends.

Following the devastation of Mexico, one of the Search and Rescue volunteers decides that the rescuers are working against God’s will and that he must do God’s will in sending them home. Since Kali seems to have such a great reputation in rescue, with or without her dog, the killer starts challenging her with taunts and threats to prove her to be “a witch” (with unnatural powers). The threats against Kali result in the FBI being pulled in to investigate. Here she meets up with Grant Summers, with which she seems to have an instant connection, though she doesn’t understand it and doesn’t want to open up to the possibilities. Through Grant she also meets Stephan, a powerful psychic who helps her control and manage her growing powers

As people around her get threatened, and people start dying, Kali has to deal with the threat from an unknown party, who seems to know all about her, whilst coming to terms with her psychic powers growing.

This is the second in the Psychic Visions series and whilst there is the occasional reference back to events from the previous book – Stephan seems to be the recurring character – this book can stand happily on it’s own and is a decent start off point for new readers.

The FBI and police teams didn’t come off well in this book, as the protective guards around Kali’s house didn’t make much of an appearance, and kept losing the killer, even when he was within feet of Kali in the darkness.

That being said, tension is kept up well, the psychic talents are downplayed in terms of the unusualness - Kali is psychic, so let's get on with it!

I’ve recently read Unbound by the same author and wanted to read another by her to get a better sense of her writing. I found this book to be a stronger story, both in plot points and writing style, so will definitely be on the lookout for more stories by Ms Mayer.

This second book in the series introduces new characters, almost like a stand-alone book, except for the psychic Stephen, but the dynamics were pretty much the same. A beautiful girl, Kali, who is a search and rescue worker, knows she has special powers, but has never really figured out what they are or how to use them, until a murderer targets her. Then she starts discovering and using her unique psychic abilities. Grant, the FBI agent assigned to protect her, turns out to be a friend of Stephen and doesn't balk at any of it, but rather is very good-looking, understanding, and protective.
Of course, they eventually fall in love. In the second half of the book, there was a lot of distracting action that didn't really add to the story and seemed to slow the flow, but the end wrapped up quickly, as did the first book. Entertaining, but predictable. ( )

#2 in the series. I didn't like this one QUITE as much as the first, but certainly well enough to continue in the series.

Kali Jordan and her dog Shiloh are a very successful part of a search and rescue team, but Kali has an edge that she hides - she can sense victims of violence. When a killer sets his sights on Kali, FBI agent Grant Summers steps in to protect her while tracking down the bad guy.

The Search & Rescue involvement was an interesting 'setting' for the story. There was enough sexy romance to satisfy those readers who like it to be part of fiction, but not so much that it overwhelmed the book.

I didn't identify as much with Kali as I did with Sam (heroine in the prior book), but still really liked it. However, there needs to be another round of proofreading. Missing words, improper words, and even 'Shiloh' was spelled two different ways. Not horrible, but a bit distracting. Maybe Ms. Mayer could get one of her readers to do a free edit of her work in exchange for a free copy (hint hint LOL). ( )

My review:

I have become a big fan of Dale Meyer. This book was riveting and kept me turning the pages to find out who the mysterious killer was. I did not guess correctly. It was very enjoyable, because it was not predictable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series! ( )

This book sounded too good to be true. I had all the elements I like in a book (mystery, romance, dogs with some psychic abilites thrown in as well. Once I started reading it I was hooked - I didn't want to put this down and ended up sneaking around at work to finish it (gotta love ebooks). I'm already searching for the other books in the series - Dale Mayer you have a new fan! ( )
