Independent Reading 5-8 Most children enjoy animals and this book makes a fun connection about a dog and an influential historical figure, George Washington. At the same ole I believe in students learning the truth and so many important facts during this time period and conflict is left out. I think the story does not hold enough information for a young student still learning about the United States. Howard Zinn would disapprove. Summary: This book tells the story about George Washington and his loves for animals! It is set in a war, where Washington finds the enemies dog roaming the countryside. George Washington, being the animal lover and respectful man that he was, he returned the dog to his enemy. The people loved George Washington and this book makes it obvious why! Personal reaction: This is a cute story that displays Washington's love for animals! The kids find it so interesting that he was nice even to his enemy....it's a good lesson for all of us to treat EVERYONE with kindness! Classroom extension ideas: Read this book during president's day. Talk about the character of George Washington and why he was so well-liked by the people. Conclude with an art project....a directed drawing of George Washington to be displayed in the hallway. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
