This is the final installment of the Forts trilogy; I’ve been waiting anxiously for it since I finished reading the other two and I was not disappointed.

Endings picks up where Liars and Theives left off, with all my favorite characters separated and scattered across the many worlds. All that had happened in the previous books came flooding back to me.

This book was far bloodier in my opinion than the other two; sadly, some of my favorite characters didn’t survive to the end. That is always a sad feeling and I may have shed a few tears. I would almost liken it to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is also a blood bath, especially in the second half. You know that chances are that all the characters you love won’t make it, and it may be for noble reasons, or allow other characters to survive, but it’s still sad.

I was excited to see that some seemingly minor characters in previous installments had pretty significant parts in the ending. There were quite a few moments that threw me because they were unexpected, but at the same time I think those moments were what made Endings my favorite of the three.

There is a significant plot twist near the end that was worth waiting three books for. I think that twist will be viewed as either a great idea or have some haters. I don’t think there will be a happy medium. I wish I could gush about it, but it would be a major spoiler and people would be mad. I can say, however, that I really liked the plot twist and that it has made me rethink everything I loved about the series.

Endings And Beginning started with a somber, intense scene and ended on a poignant, touching moment. It was a great way to end the series. Though I’m sad that is awesome series has ended, I can’t wait to see what Steven Novak writes next.
