Thomas Edison was a bright child, but because of his inability to calm down in class, his mother pulled him from school to be homeschooled. she gave him an array of knowledge and gave him the foundation needed to become the inventor the world knows him as today. His most known invention is the invention of the telegraph and the lightbulb.
This book was very well done. It included chapters that allowed for a clear flow of his lifetime. The illustrations included photographs throughout the text. There was a timeline present throughout the text as well. ( )

A book about science discoveries. Do you want to learn about the inventions of Thomas Edison and a few contemporary inventors? Well, this could be your book. Mr. Parker, author, did a decent job exploring Edison's life and how his inventions changed our lives forever. I liked that the book wasn't completely focused on Edison. The book went into some detail about the other inventions that were shaping our lives such as the telephone, car, and radio. This book would be good for a middle school science class. I'm sure it has enough information to spark a student's imagination. The illustrations were good at displaying the element of his inventions. I could see many discussions about the choices Edison made and how the were different from previous attempts at some of the advances he made. I would say this book has value and would expose a class to some great inventors and inventions. ( )

This book tell the story of Thomas Edison but focuses more on his achievements with electricity. The book has little asides that note important people of the time who did things with electricity also. this book could be used in science or in history lessons. ( )
