Really a sixteen year old with a "soul mate". Anyway, this seems to be a romance with vampire tendencies. We even have a vampire fight thrown in for good measure. Yes, a vampire called Kiera tries to kill Lexi after her transformation, but alas, Lexi...a new vampeen, wins that battle against a seasoned vampire. Most of the antics and attitudes in this book really make you think "high school" and that is good since this is a young adult novel. However, there were quite a few grammatical errors that kept distracting me from the story, even though I tried very hard to ignore them. While I wasn't totally happy with this novel, I did continue reading until it was finished. How else could I write a true review? I don't mean to totally trash this book. It's the story of nearly sixteen Lexi. Just days before her birthday she meets a becomes infatuated by Kellan, the new boy at school. He informs her that he is a vampire and she and her mom are vampeens (a cross between vampire and human).
I don't fathom how a person could hide being a form of vampire from her child for sixteen years. Or how you don't prepare the daughter that you dearly loved for such a transformation to her life. Then there's the love between 16 yr. old Lexi and 18 yr. old Kellan. The story is being told by Lexi herself, so I feel the way she describes her feelings (like wanting to kiss so deeply that she wants to feel his soul) a little over done for the mind of someone so young. It's been a long time since I was in my teens, but I don't remember thinking anything like that back then.
The story was slow moving and repetitive. It seemed too long for such a simple storyline. I don't think I will bother with the second book in the series. (
