Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. HTML:In the first of a mesmerizing trilogy, Alexandra Ivy, author of the Guardians of Eternity series, introduces the Immortal Rogues--three vampires duty-bound to protect their own kind even as they fall prey to mortal desires. . .

Centuries have passed since Gideon Ravel dwelled among humans. Now he must infiltrate the cream of London society to earn the trust of one woman. Simone, Lady Gilbert, possesses an amulet of unimaginable power, and no concept of the threat that surrounds her. The ton's gossip prepared him for her beauty and wit. But he is blindsided by her barely disguised sensuality and his growing need to possess her. . .

None of the idle aristocrats who vie for Simone's attentions know about her past. To them, she is the sophisticated, worldly widow known as the "Wicked Temptress." The truth would ruin her, and she has never been tempted to reveal it until now. Yet beneath Gideon's bold, black-eyed stare is a hunger that demands satisfaction and complete surrender. . .and a secret far more dangerous than her own. . .

My Lord Vampire by Alexandra Ivy
I won this book from goodreads in exchange for a honest review.

This book had more of the sweet historical romance than it did the paranormal. This is my first book of any of the author's work and it is wonderfully written and interesting. I'm not much on historical books, but the romance and the paranormal twist in it was enough to keep me intrigued. I enjoyed it, although thought it would be spicier. I loved the character interaction. I just adore Gideon!! I can connect with Simone. Enjoyable read if you like historical romance. ( )

It’s been two hundred years since vampires have retreated behind the Veil to live a life pursuing knowledge instead of humans. Now, that peaceful existence is being threatened by three rogues who have decided they should be out there doing what vampires do best, hunting and killing the nasty lower life forms called humans and gaining power.

Gideon Ravel and two others are sent back to the world of the humans to find three maidens, each entrusted with a piece of the Medallion used to create, hold and protect the Veil. Gideon is in search of Lady Simone Gilbert and he must find and protect her before one of the rogues gets to her. Let the hunt begin!

A very enjoyable read. Well-written, smooth-flowing with well-fleshed characters and an interesting plot. I loved the idea of vampires retreating behind the Veil and then the Veil being in jeopardy. Gideon was too arrogant for my liking, but I love seeing an arrogant man being brought down later by the heroine. I really liked Simone. She was intelligent, not easily fooled and a survivor.

This is the first book by Alexandra Ivy that I’ve read, but it won’t be my last. I look forward to reading more by her.

Oh, holy hell is this book bad.

Come on, a bodice ripper about vampires? How bad could it be?

Okay, let me put it this way: there is no sex in this book. There are also no vampires. What the fuck? Seriously, I'm not a big fan of the romance genre, but even when the prose is ponderous and trite, at least you can always flip through to find the steamy love scenes - the requisite moans and grotesquely heaving bosoms. This book had not. one. And it was such a tease! The heroine was reputed to be a merry widow, seducing gentlemen left and right. Five pages from the end, we discover she's a virgin! A virgin! I'm completely insulted: are we such children that we can't find a woman likeable - in a romance novel, no less - if she's ever had sex?

As for her vampire lover (if you can call someone a lover who never does more than clutch a lady's hand) - it turns out he gave up his bloodsucking ways centuries ago. There's an amulet or something that eliminates his need to hunt. Okay, then how the fuck is he a vampire? Seriously, what is it that makes a vampire nominally sexy? Evil! A vampire is the quintessential bad boy. At the very least, he should be a mite conflicted - walking a morally ambiguous line between love and blood lust. Take that away and you've effectively neutered your hero.

As if that weren't bad enough - a romance between a virgin and a eunuch! - the author went ahead and ripped the spine out of her heroine as well. She starts out well enough: she's pretty and powerful, the toast of the town, but she harbors a dark secret. We only catch glimpses of her secret through her nightmares, but I saw enough to lead me to believe that she had murdered her evil, abusive sister and stolen her identity. A vicious crime, yet understandable - perfect for our clever, spirited, but guilt-wracked heroine.

The truth of her secret? Her sister died in a carriage accident, she stood by in shock and horror (even though she supposedly hated the bitch), and when the town's people mistook the identities, she was too shaken to correct them. Come on! Her big guilty secret is that she suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome? Give me a break.

I've seen more darkness and depravity at Disneyland. ( )
