This book, along with Vanished and a few others, seemed to be recreations of other books or films from this period of Steel's writing. Gone are her usual tropes of page turners and have become page boredoms. This one in particular was eerily reminiscent of Tracy Whitney from Sidney Sheldon's If Tomorrow Comes, which is a far superior book I might add. Like If Tomorrow Comes, the main protagonist's mother is dead, and somebody is out to get the surviving daughter. There's secrets, prison, and other events to bring us to this tidy ending. The only difference is that Tracy goes somewhere in her book while the protagonist in this one hangs in the same place we found her.
Skip this one. Thank GOD they didn't make a film out of this. ( )
