In this captivating young adult novel, Ashlyn McVean is thrown into the crosshairs of grudges her grandmother created long ago when she finds out she is one of two people able to cross between faerie realms. Never having believed in fairy tales, Ashlyn is faced with trying to understand her abilities, while navigating a new relationship with her boyfriend, Liam. As if being on a centuries old hit list and dealing with crazed pixies isn't enough, her new abilities mean danger for Liam and everyone else she loves. Ashlyn must decide what's more important to her--her regular life with friends and family or her life within the faerie realms.… (mere)

This was an interesting enough read, although nothing extraordinary and not especially original. Sure, it is about changelings and faeries instead of vampires or werewolves, but all the typical High School cliches were there. Love triangles. True-love-at-16 (and practically first sight). Extraordinary powers. I did feel there was more chemistry between Ash and Reese than between her and Liam, and quite frankly, give certain circumstances, he was a much better match. The fact that Memaw pretty much chose to hide the truth from Ash for so long seemed counter-productive - surely it would have been more beneficial to find out her true heritage earlier in life. But I suppose that doesn't matter much given that she can learn anything in an instant. And what was it with the bond created between her and Liam? So that he becomes her Protector and feels her pain, suffers her injury, but there is no reciprical bond and such a relationship is surely detrimental to his health - how is he supposed to defend her if she is knocked out or badly wounded? Wouldn't he be too badly affected to actually be of any feasible use?

Interesting ideas, but it would have valued from a bit more polish along the lines of the plot. The grammar and spelling were mostly okay, except for the occasional "its'" and the writing style was decent enough. It was not a bad read, just not something I will be rushing out to recommend. But then again, neither is 75% of the professionally published paranormal teen fiction stuff. ( )

Bridger by Megan Curd
Bridger is one of the better books I’ve read this year; Megan Curd did a terrific job in writing this story her descriptions are great and the story bring us a different view on the fairy world. There is murder, mystery, romance and betrayal something every good book requires.

The story begins with the drowning of Ashlyn and Chris’s father, they are distraught and trying to understand what has happened. Struggling through the shock Ashlyn displays serge of power trying to get the paramedic to save her father. This is the first glimpse where we the readers know there is more to come.

Ash and her father were planning a trip to Ireland to visit their family and learn about her heritage, seeing the tickets is hard but she makes up her mind to continue on with the trip bringing her best friend along. Reluctantly her mother and grandmother agree that Ash may go, but her grandmother warns her to stay out of trouble and never go anywhere alone.

In Ireland Ash meets her extended family and some new friends, one in particular seems to have grabbed her attention. Liam who is tall handsome and seems very interested in her also. The romance is fresh and you can see why Ash is falling for Liam.
Then we are introduced to fairy realm and find out what some would say a dark side and good side. Finding out the Ash is a Bridger mean she can travel between both realms. Something only one other person can do.

When Ashlyn finds out she was the one meant to die in the pond that this was not an accident that took her father’s life but a plan of revenge. A different world opens up to Ashlyn and she finds out more than she ever expected about her families heritage. To save her family and friends Ash needs to figure out her abilities and use them to fight for her life.

This book has a great list of character, and you fall in love with all of them. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

I honestly did not know what to expect from this debut novel. I’m not well versed in faerie lore (despite being half Irish), and have not read many books where faeries factor so prominently in the tale. The novel did not draw me in immediately, I found myself questioning characters’ motives and the timing of events. The opening scene is the sudden, tragic, and very unexpected death of Ashlyn’s father. Of course, this event proves of utter importance later in the novel, but at the onset it felt rushed. Without a doubt, the first chapter of any novel is the most difficult to write—how much back story is too much, how does one control pacing, what do readers need to know immediately, these are all questions any author struggles with. Once I got out of the first chapter, I found myself drawn into the actual story and began seeing events through Ashlyn’s eyes. Most readers will be able to recall their awkward teenage years and will understand what it must be like to balance one’s own changing world with trying to figure out where one fits in the larger picture. Ashlyn finds herself bound for Ireland—the chapters that took place in Ireland were some of my favorites—where she quickly finds there is more to her family than meets the eye.Readers learn with Ashlyn that there are multiple realms and a war has been waging for hundreds of years of which most humans are blissfully unaware. Most importantly (to me at least), Ashlyn meets Liam. Yeah, yeah, faeries are cool, but c’mon—Liam is tall, has black hair, blue eyes, an Irish brogue, and is completely dedicated to keeping Ash safe---what more could a girl ask for? And here is where Megan Curd won me over—despite having a handsome and very capable boy whose sole mission in life is protecting her, Ashlyn is very much self-sufficient; indeed, she rescues him as much as he rescues her. No wimpy female protagonist waiting to be swept up by prince charming here. Bridger, as a whole, is full of strong female characters, which is something I love to see in literature.Upon meeting Liam and his family, Ashlyn’s world is turned (even more) upside down and she must come to terms with the fact that her days as an ordinary high school student are long gone. To her credit, she does try to maintain some sense of normalcy, but it seems this is not in the cards for her. The action of the novel moves along at a good pace and there is a hefty dose of romance and tension thrown in to keep the novel well-rounded. Readers will find themselves choosing sides and cheering on characters as they are pulled along on this roller-coaster ride with Ashlyn. As this is the first in a series, the novel ends with a cliffhanger; however, it does also stand alone on its own merits. I am eager to see how the series progresses, I anticipate seeing more of the other realms in the forthcoming follow-up. In all, this is a solid entry to the YA fantasy genre and I’m looking forward to following Megan Curd as her career progresses. from http://www.mymercurialmusings.com ( )

5/5 stars! Amazing!

This book was "FREAKING AMAZING!!!!"

Okay I've received this book as a "read-to-review" and yes the synopsis sounded good almost plain-like when you watch a movie trailer and it has no action but looks alright-and then you go see the actual movie and your blown away. So I gave this book a go and let me tell you this book took me far and beyond blown away!

Megan,Megan,Megan

I am your biggest fan and a fan of this series!

My synopsis: Ashlyn McVean is not your typical girl she is the descendant of one of the most Bad-ass assassins of the faery realm "Naemar". And that bad-ass assassin happens to be Ashlyn's "Memaw" or should I say grandma who looks centuries old and walks with a Cain to support her self.

After Ashlyn's father's death Ashlyn discovers that she is in the middle of a war between changelings(the bad/ugly faeries) and the Glaistig(the good faeries) and also the grudge her grandmother started centuries before Ashlyn's birth with one of the meanest and hateful changeling of them all. Ashlyn Gets tied up in this century/other-worldy war and she is the key to stopping the changelings from building a bridge to Naemar and our world for good. Ashlyn must endure test's of friendship, betrayal, and a love triangle that is brewing between her,Liam and Reese. She must learn to trust people she barely knows and live up to the McVean name.

ProsBridger is going to be a series to be reckoned with! It's fast paced, twist's and turns, and action that is non stop that keeps you reading late into the night. And don't let me forget the hilarious love triangle and the funny things Reese and Liam do to each other to win Ashlyn's heart. This book was beautiful written, it was easy to relate to all the characters who had depth and background. Morgan really made it easy for the reader to fall into Ashlyn's shoes so-to-speak to feel every emotion and place/world she stumbled into during the read. I loved this book and what a great way to start off a series! Very original plot and characters-I can say I have never read a book like this. And I soaked up every minute of this joy ride!

Cons I really cant say I found anything wrong with this book except that it should have been longer! :)

Recommend to: Vampire Academy,Hunger Games,Iron King lover's and to readers who love action packed reads will definitely enjoy!! This book was right up my alley and I cant wait to read "Traitor" the second book!! ( )

I will admit that it took me some time to really get into the story. It was too fast-paced and jumped around a lot in the beginning, but I soon found myself sucked into the story of Ashlyn and her faery troubles.

Ashlyn and her friend Jaime take a trip to Ireland to visit relatives, the trip Ashlyn and her now deceased father planned to take. Not heeding her grandmother's warnings about travelling, Ashlyn finds herself fighting with strange creatures and her own heart.

I can't wait to see what happens next... ( )
