Pablo Remembers is a heartwarming picture book of a young boy Pueblo and his tell tall tale of life during the festival of El Dia de Los Muertos, and the cultural underpinnings of family preparation, unity, and customs that Mexican life presents during this important tradition. Children of all ages, especially latino children in immersion schools who speak and have memories of this back home, will adore this book. I wondered out loud how altars of wine and flowers, and hot cocoa could be a beckoning for the children to return in spirit. From a tradition rich in a conflux of Aztec and Catholic traditions, it is important for young children to associate with these strong family traditions. How well are they associating to deep catholic-jesuit traditions of Louisiana? ( )

This book invites the reader to come along as the Refugio family prepares for and celebrates the three-day celebration of the Day of the Dead. Descriptions using Spanish words and translations give a detailed explanation of all the work and fun that surrounds this occasion. The photographs really help bring this book to life. ( )

Pablo Remembers is a beautiful book that explains what the celebration of Day of the Dead is all about. The photos are excellent and even though it is a children's book. Pablo is honoring his grandmother who died recently and the book shows all the traditional food, the celebration and the meaning behind it all. This book really demonstrate the connection the family still has to their departed loved ones as they celebrate in Mexico. ( )
