I love, love, love, love Mo Willems' books. He can do no wrong for me, and The Duckling Gets A Cookie!? is another winner. Although the Pigeon books are great for read-a-louds, the joy of the Pigeon books is the look on Pigeon's face--frustration, longing, conniving. A Pigeon book doesn't necessarily break new ground in children's picture books, but it is consistently good. And, really, what is wrong with more of a good thing? ( )

A humorous story featuring Pigeon, from "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus", and Duckling. Duckling asks for a cookie, politely that is, and receives a cookie. Pigeon gets very angry and goes on a rant about how he asks for things but never receives anything. Young children can easily read this book and it teaches them on how to politely ask for things. Mo Williams does another great job on having captivating illustrations, yet they are so simple and expressive; showing all of Pigeon's emotions during his rant. ( )

The Pigeon is back (hooray!) and this time the drama centers on an adorable little duckling who gets a cookie just by asking--politely. Just by asking?! Politely reminds the duckling, but the Pigeon is already off on a hilarious rant about all the things he asks for--many of which readers of the earlier Pigeon books will remember--ending with the all-too-familiar refrain, “It’s not fair.” Author Mo Willems adds a new twist to this Pigeon story by juxtaposing Pigeon’s familiar high volume theatrics with the calm simplicity of a soft-spoken duckling. As a parent, I appreciate the book’s message about the power of politeness and the rewards of sharing (warning: cookies are involved), yet the story never loses the jovial, high-spirited quality that makes the Pigeon books so popular with kids and the adults who read to them. --Seira Wilson -- www.thriftbooks.com

This book tells the story of a Duckling who asks politely for a cookie, but when the Pigeon finds out he gets upset because he never gets anything he asks for. But then, the Duckling gives the Pigeon a cookie, and all is right with the world.
