Biography & Autobiography. Nonfiction. HTML:

Like most women, whether they've chosen the Fortune 500 career path or have had five kids by 35, Anna David wondered if she'd made the right choices. Then she came upon the book Sex and the Single Girl by Helen Gurley Brown, Cosmopolitan's fearless leader from the mid-sixties to the late nineties. Immediately connecting with Gurley Brown's unique message of self-empowerment combined with femininity, Anna vowed to use Sex as a lesson plan, venturing out of her comfort zone in the hope of overcoming the fears and insecurities that had haunted her for years. Embarking on a journey both intensely personal and undeniably universal, she becomes adventurous and spontaneous--reviving her wardrobe and apartment, taking French lessons, dashing off to Seville, and whiling nights away with men she never would have considered before. In the process, she ends up meeting the person really worth changing for: herself.

Falling For Me is one of those books that get you excited about really looking at your life and asking yourself, "Is my life the way I expected it to be? Am I really happy or have I just resigned to the way the chips have fallen into place?" And then there's probably the most terrifying question: "Am I ever going to find my one true love or is it time to put romantic ideals aside and face up to hard facts, like the ticking of a woman's biological clock and how to find a guy to settle down with and have a family. To answer these questions for herself, Anna David takes a daring path in following the guidelines of Helen Gurley's 60s bestseller "Sex and The Single Girl." What she finds is that maybe the women of today need to look at the past to define their present and to figure out the slippery balance between independence, career, love and family. I very much appreciated Anna's insights, humor, and honesty, and above all, her journey inspired me to evaluate my life as it is and embark on my own adventure of self-discovery. ( )

So she decides to live by Helen Gurley Brown's rules in Sex and the Single Girl...so outdated, right? But is it? As she learns to live for herself, she grows as a person and all under the guise of how to catch a man. Honestly reminded me of Down with Love (the movie) for some reason. ( )

I loved this author's fiction book "Bought" but her real-life memoir did not grab me. Using Helen Gurley Brown as her mentor, David traveled both literally and figuratively to enrich her life. ( )

This book is one I skimmed because there was too much cutesy-all-about-me in it. As a single woman who has lived alone for years throughout her life, the book had little to offer because it was written by someone fairly new to living alone. Plus, the author appeared to believe it to be a temporary state, with many observations and thoughts about being back into a relationship. For someone in her age group and inclined to partnering, this is most likely a fun and informative read. For me, it was a skim. ( )

I liked this book. I thought it was very interesting how Anna David went on this year long journey to find herself. I thought some of the stories were pretty funny. I definitely identified with her in many ways and yet, thought it was interested how different we all are and how we all have our own insecurities. A fast read, cute and interesting. Something light hearted and upbeat. I wouldnt buy it, but check it out from the library or borrow it from a friend, you wont be disappointed! ( )

I expect his brow to wrinkle as he tries to come up with an answer for such a grand question. Instead he unhesitatingly says, "I highly recommend that you never complain, gossip, curse, or judge people. If you stop doing those four things, you'll be a totally different person."
If you'd like to be loved, then love yourself.
