Can't find my old original copy but picked this up in a charity shop. It doesn't read quite right - and I have discovered that this is a 1975 re-write which is not as good as the 1966 one I have had since a child. Perhaps it will turn up.... The whimsy stays just on the right side and the pace is great. I still don't like Edward Ardizzone's illustrations. ( )

Very funny fable/adventure for ages 8-12 and young-at-heart adults.

Aladdin's son Abu Ali, who talks from birth, has to break a spell when he grows up. Full of irony and humour (and lots of political incorrectness) it's a delightful romp with a satisfying ending. Wonderful to read aloud. ( )

A wonderful romp of a fairy tale, wherein Abu Ali must help a Magician among other tasks, in order to win the hand of the fair Princess Silver Bud. ( )
