Summary
-"Spellbound"
Spellbound is about Tracee learning really hard words for the upcoming Spelling Bee. She really wants to win because she wants the winning pizza party. Tracee decides that she must cheat to win, but the Super Squad step in to teach her that cheating is never worth it. Then they enjoy a pizza party together.
-"Math-o-Matic"
Math-o-Matic is all about Erik's new invention. He spends a lot of his time inventing a machine to do the Super Squad's math homework. Anxious to get all her work done, Jen jams all of her assignments into the machine until it breaks. The Super Squad figured out that the only way they are really going to learn is by doing the work all on their own.

Personal Reaction
Both of the stories in this graphic novel highlight the downfall of trying to cut corners when it comes to school work. A teacher or parents could also explain that the same negative actions will occur when trying to find the short cut in other things in life as well. I really love this novel, and would definitely use it to teach morality in my classroom.

Extension Ideas
1) Have each of the students come up with their own invention that would help them everyday, and then draw an illustration of what the invention would look like.
2) Each and every student has seen cheating occur or acted on the impulse themselves. Have each of the students journal about the pros and cons of cheating, and then have a group discussion about the negative consequences of cheating. ( )

Summary
-"Lunch Capades"
The Super Squad sets out to conquer their lunch-time rumbling hunger. Migual suggests that he has just the solution! The next day the Super Squad gathers together for Miguel's feast. The entire squad was surprised when they realized the food was nasty. They all learned the lesson that different doesn't always mean better.
-"Backpack Attack"
One stormy night the backpacks are jolted to life by a lightening strike. The Super Squad wake up to find their backpacks running wild. They aren't too sure whether or not they should trust the backpacks and get any closer. Suddenly the lightening strikes again, and the backpacks return to normal.

Personal Reaction
I love this book because it contains two ENTIRELY different stories, while still remaining cohesive. Both of the stories in this graphic novel are easy to read, understand, and learn a lesson from while still allowing the reader's mind to run wild. LOVE THEM!

Extension Ideas
1)Have each of the students try to write their own graphic novel containing at least six to nine panels. Make sure they use words as well as pictures, and have them share with the class if they would like to.
2) Have each student journal about their reaction if their own backpacks came to life while they were sleeping. Would they trust them? Capture them? Hang out and try to talk to them?etc... ( )
