When Efe Sagay receives a transfer to the branch of a prestigious hotel chain in the Nigerian capital, she accepts it, happy to return home to family after years in the United States. Also, Nigeria is a big place, right? There should be nothing about Abuja to remind her of the heartbreak of her relationship with ex-fiance, Kevwe Mukoro.New city or not, Efe is facing Kevwe across an office seven months later, swamped by emotions she'd thought were dead. When Kevwe claims he's never stopped loving her, and asks why she abandoned him, Efe is incensed! Wasn't it the other way around? Unable to stay away from each other, buried desire flares, but ultimately, is no match for the bitter memories of broken promises. They have to resolve the traumatic events of the past before love can be rekindled.… (mere)

I did not really like it. The Nigerian history was really interesting though but not really dwelled on. I did not understand the political aspect of the book but would like to learn about it more. Maybe if you have Nigerian background, this will be much appreciated. ( )

Do you really want to know what I thought about this book?

Well, I'll tell you one thing: I'm still on the fence about it.

I didn't necessarily hate the book or loved the book. It wasn't great yet it wasn't mediocre. I think it has great potential, but did this book blow me out of the water?

Not at all.

Would I read another book by this author?

Probably not.

Why?

Because I just couldn't connect with the author or the book itself. I want a book that moves me and makes me hunger for more. This book didn't do that in the slightest. In fact, I was about to not finish the book at all. Yes, I was that frustrated with it.

It has SO much potential, but then there is this issue staring me right in the face and keeping that wall up that kept me from connecting to it: Vocabulary.

I have to say this is the main reason why I couldn't just get with the program and love it. I couldn't understand the culture, the jokes, the vocabulary usage, the history or anything. And when the author explain a little bit, all she gave me was a nibble and not the whole thing.

Did I expect that she would spoon feed me ALL of the fascinating history of Africa?

Absolutely not.

Would I have appreciated more than a paragraph of background information on the culture?

Absolutely!

I just couldn't understand half of what was going on and I was just so frustrated. It's not like I was expecting her to give me a history book on Africa. Granted, maybe I should have done some research about this topic, but I did expect for some help at least in the lingo department from the author.

At certain times, I couldn't even understand what the characters were saying!

But let's break it down even further as to why I wasn't particularly love struck with this romance book.

This title of this story basically summarizes what happened. A young college student named Toritsefe Sagay (Efe) met and fell in love with a fellow student named Kevwe Mukoro. They were torn apart for over 7yrs, but a chance business meeting between Kevwe’s twin broter Ofure and Efe paved the way for the former lovers to confront each other. Instead of getting closure, Efe and Kevwe discovered that their feelings had not changed. They had to make a choice of whether to let the past rest or find out what went wrong and fix it.

What I liked:
1) The use of naija slang brought back lots of memories
2) Lightly touching on tribal fighting—anymore focus would have detracted from main story
3) Kevwe’s consistent pursuit. It was clear that he loved Efe and that never waivered

What I did not liked:
1) The back and forth from the past to the present. It ruined the fluidity of the story for me
2) This story is so basic…lacking creativity as the plot is just so common. There just wasn't any real meat on the bone.
3) Certain things were not believable. The "issue" was so obvious that I thought the couple must not be that bright.

Overall, it was a decent read. The flow of the story kept it from being a 4-star.

i won this book in a contest and i was asked to give a review if i felt like i wanted to. i truly enjoyed the book the hero and heroine were both intriguing and complex and pulled me right into the story. it was a lovely story of love and forgiveness and how differences don't seem so big when you love the person so for themself.
i also enjoyed the fact that even with the hero being an alpha he could not intimidate and she gave as good as she got.
the plot was also very good as it was not one of those that you had figured out 5 minutes into the book but it kept me guessing right up to the last pages. i would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a romance genre or even someone looking for something different from their everday reads. they won't be disappointed ( )

A Love Rekindled – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat

‘Jane and Joan’s sobs mingled, and they ran out of the room, tears gushing down their cheeks. Ovie came in soon after. “What is this I hear? I saw the twins on my way here.” “Kevwe may have broken up with Efe…” Efe looked up to her. “Is there any doubt about it? His father told me. I’d been hoping he would call, but he hasn’t.” “So he couldn’t face you to tell you himself?” Ovie demanded as she sat. “I saw him today, and he wouldn’t talk to me too…” “You saw Kevwe, today?” Efe sat straight. Time seemed to move in slow motion, and she felt dizzy for a while. “Yes. On my way to First Bank, I saw him at UBA Akpakpava, near the roundabout. When I said hi, he ignored me. Maybe he thought I knew about the break-up…” “Are you sure it was him you saw?” Efe clutched her chest. The ache in her pounding heart was real. “I’m sure. You know how I complain about his habit of jangling his keys all the time as if he’s the only one who has a car. It was the sound that caught my attention, and he was with another girl.” Efe stopped thinking, her breathing also seemed to cease. All the blood in every single part of her body drained to her heart, making it expand, and it pushed against her ribs as if to burst loose. Efe sprang out of bed, screaming in fear.’

Efe Sagay grew up and went to school in Nigeria. While attending school she met the love of her life, her soul mate, the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with…Kevwe Mukoro. And the feelings were duplicated by Kevwe. As soon as Efe graduated, they would be married. This was the dream and this was the plan.

But real life doesn’t always see things the way we do. The perfect future can always be destroyed by unforeseen circumstances. In Efe and Kevwe’s case, one of their biggest obstacles came in the form of his father. Nigeria is made up of tribes and with the tribal wars that had been going on for years sometimes lead to hate between the different tribe members. This was the case with Kevwe’s father when he found that Efe was from the tribe he hated the most. He was determined that there would be no way Efe and Kevwe would ever marry. And with the events that followed the announcement of their engagement, he may have gotten his wish. Through deceit on his part, the couple separated with Efe going to America to finish her education and Kevwe putting his life into the company he had started.

But then again, fate steps in and seven years later the couple will meet again. Can they rekindle what was so perfect for them? Will family again put a stop to their relationship? Or has there just been too much time lost for them to reunite?

A Love Rekindled is a beautiful story of true, 100% love. The hardships and heartbreaks that were bestowed upon Efe and Kevwe are heart wrenching. And their struggles to understand and accept what happened to them and what will become of them is painful as well as healing. This is one great story of complete love.
