No photos, which is kind of explained away by a couple points where he has his film confiscated, but not completely. I mean, zero photos?

Hard for me to pinpoint a problem with this book to hang my ambivalence on - the subject matter was interesting but perhaps I just didn't grip the framing? There is a lot of geography, but the maps aren't great. The book veers into chinese history at times, but those areas of the text drag. ( )
