I guess the reason for writing this book is two-fold. Firstly Tebow gets to tell his own story and set straight a few things that has been mis-told in the press. Secondly it gives him a platform to tell the world about his religious upbringing and beliefs. One thing that comes out strongly in this book is his wanting to bring Jesus into peoples lives. This second point was also a big part of my interest as British athletes and sportsmen don't talk about religion at all.

So, onto the book. The first section deals with his upbringing and school life up to and including high school. Obviously god plays a huge part in his outlook on life and although he says he doesn't wish to preach to others the book does get a little preachy in places. If I'm honest though it doesn't spoil the book, after all, you are reading about Tebow, god is going to feature a lot. This section also deals with the fact that he was home schooled and the issues that could and did arise from that. At no point does he seem to think that he missed out on anything. In fact he attributes it in helping because he could schedule it around his sports activities.

The second part of the book is all about his time at college and the dilemma he had in deciding which college to choose. I was very surprised to read that he still hadn't made his mind up 15 minutes before he was due to announce it to the nation. Once choosing the college to attend most of the rest of this part details the games, results and certain plays that stuck in his mind. The final part deals with the draft and first season with the Denver Broncos.

In the end I had to give the book a rating of 'OK'. There are some compelling parts to it, his drive and and passion to be the best he can be is really inspirational. I have little doubt that it is this drive which has lead to his success. He is also very open about his religion and all aspects of it including his belief in sex after marriage. However I feel it falls down a little when it reaches the college section of the book. Here is turns into merely a collection of game recollections. For me, this is no huge problem as I like American Football, however it does get pretty repetitive. After a while it turns into a bit of a mush. I would liked to have read a bit more about his life outside football, maybe he didn't have much of one so there is little to talk about in that respect?

This is a decent read if you have an interest in the individual but will be of little interest to anyone who isn't already a fan in my opinion. ( )

Yes, I actually listened to Tim Tebow's book. I'm not a huge football fan and, let me tell you, he thinks about football A LOT. He recaps pretty much every college game he ever played in. At times this was tedious, but his personality is such I did genuinely want him to do well. I really enjoyed some of his family stories (the one about his dog almost being beaten to death is one I will never forget) and about how he lives out his faith. Tebow is the real deal in that regard and learning more about his background and his passion to help children was inspiring. Read this one if you have any interest in inspiring Christian leaders. He may not be a preacher, as his parents dreamed, but God has certainly given him an incredible platform--and I look forward to seeing what God has in store for him in the future. ( )

Well, it’s Sunday, and there’s no football. The Superbowl is over. Desperately clinging to another passion (NFL football) and hoping to excuse it as religious reading, I picked up Tim Tebow’s book. Tim, the latest God-fearing sports sensation.

Don’t let me fool you: This is a football book, not a book about religion. More than anything else, you’ll be reading about Tebow’s football experiences, including his remarkable college career. Tebow’s success in football boils down to one thing: an obsessive drive. He simply cannot slack off. “When we think we can do less than our best, when we think others are not watching, we’re cheating ourselves and the God who created us.” But it’s more than wanting to do right by God. Tebow just can’t accept losing. His mantra: “Somewhere he is out there, training while I am not. One day, when we meet, he will win.”

Here’s the deal: Much as I wince at athletes who praise God after every touchdown, I wound up really liking this Tebow fella! Yes, Tim feels the need to evangelize, given the special opportunity he has been given in life, but his religion is grounded. He may print Bible verses under his eyes when he plays, hoping for a camera close-up, but he doesn’t consider himself God’s answer to the world. A couple typical Tebow quotes:

“I know it sounds dumb to be praying over a football game … I’m not sure God is into who wins or loses .. But since my parents raised me to pray about anything that’s on my heart, I pray—even if some of those things are trivial in the overall scheme of things.”

“People often seem to think that when you’re following the Lord and trying to do His will, your path will always be clear, the decisions smooth and easy, and life will be lived happily ever after and all that. Sometimes that may be true, but I’ve found that more often, it’s not. The muddled decisions still seem muddled, bad things still happen to believers, and great things can happen to nonbelievers.”

Yeah, the season is over, and Tim Tebow, the unlikely master of miraculous comebacks, couldn’t pull a rabbit out of the hat when it really mattered this year. His faith in God notwithstanding, we now head into the off-season wondering if he’ll even remain the Anointed One in Denver. Tebow never lost his trust in God, but has he lost the trust of his coaching staff?

As Tim says, “I don’t know what my future holds, but I do know who holds my future.” ( )
