Children's books that attempt to show unconditional love rub me the wrong way. Parents can love their children without allowing horrible and unnecessary sacrifices.

This specific book annoys me because my kid tries to use the conflicts as a baseline of what's acceptable. It's frustrating to explain why actions like hammering nails into the floor of a store would not be charming mistake. The collateral damage in this book is wildly cartoonish, which puts it at odds with the books in the series in which consequences matter.

What I would've liked to see in a "helping" book is an opening to explain why asking how to help is better than making assumptions. ( )

A young critter spends the day trying to help his dad, but he is not big enough for most of the chores and he keeps messing up until he needs his dad's help.

This is a well-written early reader book that pairs illustrations to the text to help the reader find the right words while also providing humor to the story as the reader sees the mistakes the little boy is making when he tries to help. This series is loved by students and adults alike. ( )
