Prayer Is Our Response to God's Invitation. So often we think of prayer as something we do to break through to God--to get His attention and to get Him to listen to us. But intimacy with God is His idea. He has taken the initiative, and prayer is His gift to us. It is an opportunity for us to respond to His invitation to intimacy by calling, crying, and singing to Him. Prayer is our response to the One who has called out to us and desires to be in a relationship with us.In Becoming a Woman of Prayer, Cynthia Heald will encourage you to respond to God's invitation to deeper intimacy with Him.… (mere)

If I could quote from the Preface of this book it summarizes the purpose of the book very well: "I stand in the need of spending time in prayer", "to deepen your understanding of prayer so that you can pray more effectively and draw closer to our Lord. . .", "The underlying principle of prayer, which overwhelmed me, is that God desires to be intimate with me and He wants this relationship so much that He invites, encourages and helps me to pray".

The author does a great job of helping you understand the purpose and goal of our prayer life. She uses a lot of scripture, which I always appreciate, and also found some excellent quotes from great men and women of the faith that I also greatly enjoyed. As I flip back through the pages of this book, I am amazed at all the underlining and highlighting I did as I read. Which means there is a lot that I want to go back to and re-read. This was taught at our ladies Bible study on prayer and is very easy to use as she gives questions to answer with scripture to look up on prayer. ( )

I read a chapter every morning and used it as a devotional. It was a great way to start my day.
Prayer changes things and this reminds you how to be a better prayer warrior, etc. ( )

This is one of a series of books written by Cynthia Heald. This books truly is a Bible study. The author concentrates on pointing you to the applicable scripture covering each topic she addresses and keeps her own comments and those of other Christian authors to a minimum. The book is short in length, but each chapter leads the reader to several Bible verses for additional reading. Each chapter also includes several contemplative questions for the reader to answer after reading the selected verses.

This is an excellent study for someone who is ready to delve beyond just a casual understanding of God's Word. ( )
