New paperback edition of this highly detailed, gorgeously illustrated history and celebration of Airfix models. 50 years of Airfix designs are brought to life with comprehensive text and extraordinary photos of models and ads. Airfix models have now celebrated their 50th birthday. Only a very sad minority of men aged 30-50 did not make Airfix kits when they were boys. This book enables everyone to relive the glory days of these superb plastic air forces (or tank fleets) and perhaps to pass the torch to their children. Superbly executed studio photographs show all the rare and highly collectible kits as well as the best sellers, with illustrations of the packets, box art, adverts in 1960s and 1970s magazines, and a mass of period ephemera. The accompanying text charts the rise, fall and rise again of Airfix models. Ite(tm)s a jolly read, a nostalgic reminder of kits long vanished, and with a happy ending: Airfix are now re-releasing 40 kits a year, bringing back some not seen for twenty years.… (mere)

An excellent, very detailed and copiously illustrated history of Airfix from the earliest times up to the end of the 1990s. Compares very well with his later "The Boys' Book of Airfix" Highly recommended and available quite cheaply in this Book Club edition. ( )
